About Us
Wasswa Silver grew up on Buvuma Island and witnessed firsthand the struggles that his community faced, including poverty, lack of access to education and healthcare, and limited economic opportunities. He was determined to make a difference and help his community thrive.
With the support of friends and volunteers, Wasswa founded Empowering Islanders and began working towards improving the lives of Buvuma Islanders. The organization has since grown and expanded its reach, providing scholastic materials and school fees to children, medical supplies and services to the sick, and training programs for local farmers and entrepreneurs.
One of the organization’s major initiatives is the construction of a school and community center on Lubya Island. The center will provide a space for education, healthcare services, and community activities. It will also serve as a hub for empowering islanders’ programs and initiatives on that island.
Through its work, Empowering Islanders has made a significant impact on the lives of Buvuma Islanders. The organization has helped children receive an education, provided medical care to those in need, and created economic opportunities for local residents.
Wasswa Silver and empowering islanders continue to work towards their vision of a thriving Buvuma Island community, where every resident has access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
Empowering Islanders was founded in 2011 as a community based organization but gained NGO status in 2020; duly licensed and registered as a non profit organization under the laws of Uganda.
